Abstract

We conducted an investigation into the factors that influence the criminal behavior of sixty-four male and female criminals who were randomly selected from prisons in Brunei. These factors included age, education, marital status, work, and parental marriage. There was an investigation into the matter that was carried out utilizing a quantitative field survey approach, which was successful with the inmates who were involved. Using hierarchical multiple regression analysis with backward elimination, it was discovered that different age groups and marital status were significantly connected with criminal conduct among those who were incarcerated. There were also strong correlations found between high odds ratios and theft offenses committed by convicted individuals based on age, degree of primary education, marital status, work status, and parental marital status. These correlations were found by employing backward elimination in a hierarchical multinomial logistic regression analysis. All 29 of the nonrecidivists were expected to commit new crimes shortly after being released from jail, as this was the expectation. All thirty-three of these repeat offenders were subject to the expectation that, whenever they were freed from prison, they would immediately commit fresh crimes. Using hierarchical binary logistic regression analysis, it was determined that offenders who had jobs and only a basic education, who were between the ages of 24 and 29 and 30 and 35, were more likely to commit more offenses. It is important for therapeutic therapies in Brunei to take into account the sociodemographics of convicts, in addition to mental health disorders like as psychopathy and sociopathic personality disorder. The study provided researchers with valuable information regarding criminal tendencies and practices that are prevalent in Brunei's correctional facilities or prisons.
